To comply with new European cybersecurity regulations (the NIS2 Directive), all domain registrations now require a verified email address for the domain owner (registrant).
Email verification helps ensure domain ownership information remains accurate and allows domain owners to receive important notifications about their domains when necessary.
When Did This Requirement Start?
Email verification became mandatory for all new domain registrations and ownership updates on 25 November 2025.
If your domain was registered before this date, no action is required unless you update the domain owner's contact information.
Which Domains Require Verification?
Email verification applies to:
- New domain registrations
- Domain transfers
- Changes to the domain owner contact
- Changes to the owner's email address
This requirement applies to all domain extensions (.com, .net, .org, .de, .co.uk, and many others).
Domains registered before 25 November 2025 are not affected unless ownership information is changed.
How Does Verification Work?
When you register a domain or update the owner's email address, we automatically send a verification email to that address.
Simply:
- Open the verification email.
- Click the verification link.
- Confirmation is completed instantly.
Once verified, no further action is needed unless you change the email address again.
How Long Do I Have to Verify?
You have 15 days from the date the verification email is sent.
We recommend verifying as soon as possible to avoid any interruption to your domain services.
What Happens If I Don't Verify My Email?
If your email address is not verified within 15 days, your domain may be suspended.
During suspension:
- Your website will stop working.
- Email services connected to the domain will stop working.
- Visitors will see an informational page explaining the suspension.
- Your domain registration remains active and is not deleted.
How Do I Reactivate a Suspended Domain?
Simply verify your email address using the link in the original verification email.
Once verification is completed, your domain will automatically be reactivated.
If the verification link is no longer working, please contact our support team.
I Didn't Receive the Verification Email
Please try the following:
Check Your Spam Folder
Verification emails are sometimes filtered by email providers.
Search Your Inbox
Search for emails containing:
- "Verify your email address"
- "Domain verification"
Add the Sender to Your Safe List
Adding the verification sender to your contacts can help prevent future delivery issues.
Still Can't Find It?
Contact the Iwantmyname Support team and we'll resend the verification email.
Do I Need to Verify Again If I Change My Email Address?
Yes.
Whenever the owner contact email address is changed to a new, previously unverified email address, a new verification email will be sent.
The new address must be verified within 15 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my domain be deleted if I don't verify?
No. The domain remains registered but may be suspended until verification is completed.
Can I verify after the 15-day deadline?
Yes. Verification can still be completed after suspension, and the domain will be reactivated once verification succeeds.
Does this apply to all domain extensions?
Yes. Email verification applies to nearly all domain extensions. Some fulfilment-based TLDs may continue operating under separate registry-specific processes.
Why is this required?
The NIS2 Directive requires registrars and domain providers to maintain accurate registration data and ensure domain owners can be contacted when necessary.
