Administrative change to the registrar for .nz domains, 25 August 2026

Overview

On 25 August 2026, .nz domain names managed through iwantmyname will be moved from the registrar ideegeo Group Ltd to 1API GmbH.

Both registrars are part of Team Internet Group, which owns and operates iwantmyname.

This is an internal administrative change. It does not change your ownership of your domain, the way you manage it through iwantmyname, or the services connected to it.

The most important information

  • You do not need to take any action.
  • You will continue to manage your domain through iwantmyname.
  • Your iwantmyname account and login details will remain the same.
  • Your domain name will remain registered to its current registrant.
  • There are no planned changes to your prices, terms, renewal arrangements, DNS settings, nameservers, or domain management experience.
  • The .nz Registrant Core Terms and Conditions will not change as a result of this transfer.
  • You remain free to transfer your domain to another registrar.

What is changing?

The accredited registrar associated with your .nz domain registration will change.

Currently, affected .nz domains are registered through:

ideegeo Group Ltd

From 25 August 2026, they will instead be registered through:

1API GmbH

This means that 1API GmbH will become the registrar formally associated with the affected .nz domain registrations.

iwantmyname will continue to be the service you use to access, renew, configure, and manage your domains.

Why is this happening?

iwantmyname is owned and operated by Team Internet Group Plc.

Both ideegeo Group Ltd and 1API GmbH are companies within Team Internet Group. The transfer is part of an internal streamlining process intended to simplify how .nz domain registrations are administered within the group.

This is not a sale of your domain, a change of domain ownership, or a transfer of your iwantmyname account to an unrelated company.

What is not changing?

Area What to expect
Domain ownership Your domain remains registered to its current registrant.
iwantmyname account Your account, username, login method, and account access remain the same.
Domain management You will continue managing your domain through iwantmyname.com.
DNS settings No DNS changes are planned as part of this administrative transfer.
Nameservers Your existing nameserver configuration is not expected to change.
Website and email The transfer is not expected to interrupt services connected to your domain.
Renewal date Your existing registration and renewal dates remain unchanged.
Automatic renewal Your existing automatic-renewal preference is not expected to change.
Pricing No price changes are being made as part of this registrar transfer.
Terms and conditions Your iwantmyname terms and the .nz Registrant Core Terms and Conditions remain unchanged.
Support You will continue contacting the iwantmyname support team for assistance.
Ability to transfer You remain free to transfer your domain to another registrar.

Do I need to do anything?

No.

The registrar change will be handled automatically. You do not need to:

  • Approve the transfer.
  • Reply to the notification email.
  • Create a new account.
  • Change your password.
  • Update your nameservers.
  • Change your DNS records.
  • Update your payment details.
  • Renew your domain early.
  • Request an authorization code unless you want to transfer the domain elsewhere.
  • Contact support simply to confirm that the transfer will happen.

You only need to contact us if you have a specific question, notice an unexpected issue, or want to transfer your domain to another registrar.

When will the change happen?

The administrative transfer is scheduled for 25 August 2026.

Before 25 August 2026

Your affected .nz domains will continue to show ideegeo Group Ltd as the registrar.

You can continue managing, renewing, and updating your domain normally through iwantmyname.

On or around 25 August 2026

The registrar associated with affected .nz domains will be changed from ideegeo Group Ltd to 1API GmbH.

The change may not appear in every registration lookup service at exactly the same time. Some third-party services cache domain registration information and may take time to refresh.

After 25 August 2026

You may see 1API GmbH listed as the registrar when viewing registration information for your domain.

You will still sign in to iwantmyname and manage your domain in the same way as before.

Will my website or email stop working?

The registrar transfer is not expected to cause downtime.

Your website, email, redirects, verification records, and other services generally depend on your domain’s DNS and nameserver configuration. These settings are not being changed as part of this administrative transfer.

You should not need to update your hosting provider, email provider, website platform, or DNS records.

If you experience an issue after the transfer, first check whether your domain’s nameservers and DNS records still match the settings required by your website or email provider. If the settings appear correct but the service is not working, contact iwantmyname support and include:

  • The affected domain name.
  • The service that is not working.
  • When the issue started.
  • Any error message you received.
  • Whether you recently changed your DNS, hosting, or email settings.

Will my renewal date change?

No change to your domain’s registration or renewal date is planned.

A registrar-to-registrar administrative transfer does not mean that your domain is being newly registered, cancelled, or automatically renewed for a different period.

You can continue checking your renewal date and renewal settings from your iwantmyname account.

Will my automatic-renewal setting change?

Your current automatic-renewal preference is not expected to change as part of this process.

We recommend that all domain owners periodically confirm that:

  • Automatic renewal is enabled where desired.
  • The payment method on the account is current.
  • The account email address can receive renewal notices.
  • The registrant contact information is accurate.

These are general domain-management precautions and are not additional requirements created by this registrar change.

Will the price of my domain change?

No price change is being made as part of this administrative transfer.

Future pricing may still change for unrelated reasons, such as registry pricing changes, taxes, currency movements, or broader updates to iwantmyname pricing. Any such change would be communicated separately where required.

The registrar transfer itself does not create a new fee.

Are the terms and conditions changing?

No.

There are no changes to the .nz Registrant Core Terms and Conditions as a result of this registrar transfer.

There are also no changes to iwantmyname’s terms and conditions specifically because of this administrative action.

Is my domain being sold or transferred to a new owner?

No.

The registrar is the organization responsible for administering a domain registration on behalf of the registrant. Changing the registrar does not change who the registrant is.

Your domain will remain registered to the same registrant, subject to the registration information currently recorded for the domain.

Is iwantmyname changing ownership?

No ownership change is being announced through this process.

iwantmyname is owned and operated by Team Internet Group Plc. The transfer is taking place between two registrar entities within Team Internet Group.

Will I need a new iwantmyname account?

No.

Your existing iwantmyname account will remain in place. You will continue to use the same website and account credentials.

You will not need to create an account directly with 1API GmbH.

Will 1API contact me directly?

There is no action you need to take directly with 1API GmbH for this transfer.

Your customer relationship and normal support contact remain with iwantmyname.

Be cautious if you receive an unexpected message asking you to:

  • Share your password.
  • Provide a one-time authentication code.
  • Pay an urgent transfer fee.
  • Move your domain to a different account.
  • Change your nameservers.
  • Download an attachment to complete the transfer.
  • Enter payment information on an unfamiliar website.

The administrative transfer described in this article does not require any of these actions.

When uncertain, do not use the links in the unexpected message. Sign in to iwantmyname directly through the website or contact iwantmyname support.

Will my registrant contact details change?

No registrant contact changes are planned as part of the registrar transfer.

Your existing registrant information should remain associated with your domain. You are still responsible for ensuring that the information is accurate and current.

You can review the available domain contact information from your iwantmyname account.

What happens to my domain privacy settings?

No privacy-setting changes are planned as part of this administrative transfer.

The information displayed publicly for a .nz domain remains subject to applicable .nz policies, registry requirements, privacy rules, and the information associated with the registration.

If you believe that information is being displayed incorrectly after the transfer, contact iwantmyname support with the affected domain name and a description of the information you are concerned about.

What if I have several .nz domains?

The change applies to affected .nz domain names currently registered through ideegeo Group Ltd and managed through iwantmyname.

You do not need to perform the transfer separately for each domain.

The process will be completed administratively. After the effective date, you may see 1API GmbH listed as the registrar for the affected domains.

Does this apply to domains with endings other than .nz?

This notification concerns .nz domain names.

Domains using other extensions may be registered through different registrar entities and are not necessarily affected by this specific change.

You can continue managing all supported domains from the same iwantmyname account.

Can I continue making changes to my domain?

Yes.

You can continue using iwantmyname to manage your domain before, during, and after the administrative transfer.

This includes normal activities such as:

  • Reviewing your domain settings.
  • Updating DNS records.
  • Changing nameservers.
  • Managing forwarding.
  • Reviewing renewal settings.
  • Updating eligible domain contact information.
  • Requesting assistance from support.

There is no planned customer-facing management freeze associated with the transfer.

Should I avoid changing DNS settings near the transfer date?

There is no general requirement to avoid DNS changes.

However, DNS changes can take time to propagate regardless of the registrar transfer. If you make DNS or nameserver changes near 25 August 2026, temporary differences between DNS resolvers may be related to normal DNS propagation rather than the administrative registrar change.

When making an important DNS change, record the previous settings so they can be restored if necessary.

What if my domain expires close to 25 August 2026?

The administrative transfer does not remove your responsibility to renew the domain by the applicable deadline.

Check the domain’s renewal date in your iwantmyname account and make sure that:

  • Automatic renewal is configured as intended.
  • Your payment information is current.
  • Your account email address is working.
  • You respond promptly to any renewal or payment issue.

You do not need to renew early solely because of the registrar change.

If your domain is already expired, suspended, or in a recovery process, contact iwantmyname support. The available options may depend on the domain’s current lifecycle status.

What if I am already transferring my domain elsewhere?

If you have already started a transfer to another registrar, continue following the instructions provided for that transfer.

Transfer timing and eligibility can depend on the domain’s current status. Contact iwantmyname support if:

  • You have already requested an authorization code.
  • A transfer is currently pending.
  • The receiving registrar reports that the transfer is blocked.
  • Your authorization code is rejected.
  • You are unsure whether the transfer will complete before 25 August 2026.

Include the domain name and any error message from the receiving registrar.

What if I do not agree with the change?

You are not required to keep your domain with iwantmyname.

You may transfer the domain to another registrar of your choice. Your ability to transfer is not restricted because of the administrative process described in this article.

Before transferring, consider whether you need to:

  • Obtain an authorization code.
  • Confirm that your registrant email address is current.
  • Disable any transfer lock that may apply.
  • Confirm the receiving registrar supports .nz domains.
  • Review the receiving registrar’s prices, renewal terms, support options, and DNS services.
  • Save a copy of your current DNS records.
  • Check whether a renewal or expiration deadline is approaching.

Transferring your domain away may change where and how you manage the domain. It does not automatically move your website, email service, or hosting content.

How do I request an authorization code?

Contact the iwantmyname support team and state that you need the authorization code for a .nz domain transfer.

To help us process your request efficiently, include:

  • The full domain name.
  • The iwantmyname account associated with the domain.
  • Confirmation that you want to transfer the domain to another registrar.
  • Details of any deadline or error reported by the receiving registrar.

For security reasons, support may need to verify that the request comes from an authorized account holder.

Do I need an authorization code for the internal transfer to 1API?

No.

You do not need to request or enter an authorization code for the administrative transfer from ideegeo Group Ltd to 1API GmbH.

An authorization code is only relevant if you choose to transfer your domain to a different registrar.

Why does a domain lookup still show ideegeo Group Ltd after 25 August 2026?

Registration lookup services do not always update simultaneously.

Possible reasons include:

  • The transfer is still being processed.
  • The lookup provider is showing cached information.
  • The provider has not refreshed its data.
  • Different lookup services are using different data sources.

Wait for the registration information to refresh and check again later.

Contact support if the registrar information has not updated after a reasonable period or if the domain is showing another unexpected status.

Why does my account still show iwantmyname instead of 1API?

That is expected.

iwantmyname remains the platform you use to manage the domain. 1API GmbH is the underlying registrar entity associated with the registration.

You are not being moved to a separate 1API customer portal.

Could this affect SSL certificates?

The administrative transfer is not expected to invalidate or change an existing SSL or TLS certificate.

Certificates are normally associated with domain control and the systems where the certificate is installed, rather than the name of the registrar.

Automated certificate renewal can fail for unrelated reasons, including DNS changes, validation failures, hosting changes, or expired credentials. If a certificate issue occurs, first check the validation method used by your website or hosting provider.

Could this affect search rankings?

A registrar change alone is not expected to affect search-engine rankings.

Search visibility can be affected by website downtime, DNS misconfiguration, content changes, redirects, or changes to website accessibility. None of those changes are planned as part of this administrative transfer.

Could this affect my Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or other email service?

The transfer is not expected to affect third-party email services.

Your email provider relies on DNS records such as MX, TXT, CNAME, and sometimes SRV records. These records are not planned to change as part of the registrar transfer.

Do not delete or recreate your email configuration because of this notification.

Could this affect domain verification records?

No changes to existing DNS verification records are planned.

TXT and CNAME records used by services such as website platforms, email providers, analytics services, certificate authorities, or social networks should remain in place.

Will I receive a confirmation after the transfer?

You may receive communications associated with the administrative change, but no confirmation response is required from you unless a message specifically identifies a problem with your domain.

Always verify that a message is legitimate before following instructions or providing account information.

How can I confirm that my domain is working normally?

You can perform the following checks:

  1. Sign in to your iwantmyname account.
  2. Confirm that the domain appears in your domain list.
  3. Review its registration and renewal status.
  4. Confirm that the expected nameservers are present.
  5. Open the website connected to the domain.
  6. Send and receive a test email if the domain is used for email.
  7. Confirm that any important redirects or subdomains still work.

You do not need to contact support if these checks are successful.

When should I contact support?

Contact iwantmyname support if:

  • Your domain no longer appears in your account.
  • You cannot sign in to your account.
  • The domain shows an unexpected expired, suspended, or failed status.
  • Your nameservers or DNS records changed unexpectedly.
  • Your website or domain-based email stopped working and the DNS configuration appears correct.
  • You were charged an unexpected registrar-transfer fee.
  • You received a suspicious message claiming that payment or account verification is required.
  • You need an authorization code.
  • You have a transfer to another registrar in progress.
  • You believe your registrant information is incorrect.
  • You have a question that is not answered in this article.

To reduce delays, include the domain name, relevant dates, screenshots, error messages, and a clear description of the outcome you need.

How do I submit a concern?

Please contact iwantmyname first so that we can review the issue and try to resolve it directly.

When submitting a complaint, include:

  • The affected domain name.
  • A clear description of what happened.
  • The date or approximate time of the issue.
  • Any previous support request reference.
  • Relevant messages, screenshots, or error details.
  • The resolution you are requesting.

You may also contact the Domain Name Commission, which provides oversight of the .nz domain name space.

Summary

This is an administrative transfer between companies within Team Internet Group.
